The World is tested by numerous risks and crisis in many parts of the globe effecting millions of people today. Climate change, natural disasters, increasing income gap and poverty, population growth and mass migration are some of the challenges we face. Moreover, wars and conflicts, erosion of multilateralism, rise of populism, failure of international organizations addressing multifaceted problem are threating peace, security and stability. While we witness the rise of complex challenges in social, political, economic and security realms, we also see the increasing number of tools and means  which can be employed and utilized to address different aspects of transformations that deeply effect the World. In this context, I would like to explore how higher education institutions can capitalize on new trends and tools while reviving their traditional functions in education, training, research and social/community services.

As the title of this presentation suggest there is a growing trend of internationalization today which brings cultures, languages, values and different World views closer creating an environment of inclusion and participation. Such a process also provides an inclusive environment where critical and creative minds can engage in meaningful debate and discussion to address global challenges that threaten peace and security and can contribute to good governance. Universities as bastions of knowledge, innovation and critical thinking have a huge potential of making broader social impact. I argue that by using artificial intelligence, big data wisely and by re-thinking the legacy they have inhered from centuries old past, higher education institutions can provide sustainable solutions to global problems.
